About Chor Anno

Founded in 2009 by Howard Meharg, Chor Anno is a mixed ensemble of dedicated singers from throughout the Pacific Northwest, united by a shared commitment to artistic excellence and a love of exceptional choral music. Many of our members are choral directors, educators, and church musicians, joined by accomplished singers from a variety of backgrounds who bring their own artistry and passion to the ensemble.

What's in a Name?

The name Chor Anno is a bit of creative license—and we're happy to admit it! Combining the German word Chor ("choir") with the Latin word anno ("year"), we've come to think of it as "the annual choir." It's a name, not a translation, but it perfectly reflects the spirit of the ensemble.

Because our members lead busy lives directing choirs, teaching, performing, and serving communities throughout Washington and Oregon, gathering everyone in one place is no small feat. Each year, we come together for an intensive rehearsal retreat before presenting a weekend of performances, making every rehearsal and every concert an event to look forward to.

Our Mission

At the heart of Chor Anno are its singers. Every member contributes not only exceptional musicianship but also a spirit of collaboration, curiosity, and joy. While many of our singers spend their careers leading ensembles of their own, everyone who joins Chor Anno shares the same role when rehearsal begins: singer, colleague, and artist.

No one is paid to participate. We sing simply because we believe in the transformative power of great choral music and the unique experience of creating it together. That shared dedication allows Chor Anno to achieve a level of artistry that reflects the extraordinary talent and commitment of its members.
